“Sometimes I lie awake at night, and I ask, ‘Where have I gone wrong? Then a voice says to me, ‘This is going to take more than one night.” Charles M. Schulz
Have we ever felt like this, everything that could go wrong has. That is not my case, but situations in our world could shower us with a tsunami of overwhelming events. This year I felt like I needed a word or words to hoist my sails into the wind.
I admire people that come up with a word or words to live by at the beginning of a year. I have never done this until now! Over the holidays I gave thought on how I wanted to live my life this year. I prayed, contemplated, read scripture and discussed this with my wife. Then one Sunday morning two words ‘floated’ to the top of my thinking box. STAND STEADY! That’s it, here are my words for this year.
Some explanation is needed
My words for 2015; Stand Steady!
Stand ~ maintain a specified position
Steady ~ stable, unwavering, consistent in my walk of faith.
My first impression on the word, stand, is to take a stand against something or someone. Yes, I can do that and actually it is the first impression. It is always easy to be against anything, doesn’t take a lot of effort to do so.
But that is not what I’m talking about, I am taking my Stand for something. It is for what I believe in, what has succeeded in my life over the years. A stand for loyalty to God, my marriage, my family, my friends and my church. Loyalty is kind of out of vogue these days. But it is the fabric that holds us together as a family and a nation. When loyal; trust builds, forgiveness reigns, lasting friendships are formed, promotions are granted and peace flows giving us a lifetime of smiles.
Steady, this is a sensible, levelheaded and rational approach to the occasional disruptive experiences presented to me. By standing steady I do not mean having a stubborn obstinate view of other people’s opinions, not at all. It is an underlying faith which never wavers in the face of adversity. Presenting itself as an authentic appreciation of the struggles we all face in life. Provides a rock on which others can depend.
Scriptural wind in my sails
“Watch, stand fast [steady] in the faith, be brave, be strong.”
I Corinthians 16: 13 NKJ [my insertion] (see Philippians 1:27)
I must watch, be on the alert, yet remain strong in my faith in Jesus Christ. Have a brave heart, never wavering, ever faithful. Yes, these are MY words for 2015. What are yours?
